Performance Tip

Are you learning in life? What are you learning? How are you learning, changing or growing? Are you repeating the same useless patterns over and over and over? Or are you recognising a pattern that doesn’t work for you and doing something to make change?

Some patterns are simple to break, and we can make change consciously. Deciding to eliminate automatic or ‘mindless’ habits such as unconscious eating (that’s where someone eats a whole packet of biscuits or chips without thinking about it!), or automatically yelling in frustration at your child or colleague, directs your unconscious mind to alert you to the pattern. Then you can decide to do something different. In NLP we call this a ‘pattern interrupt’. It’s a bit like when, as a child, if someone made you angry, you were taught to ‘count to ten before you speak.’

In actual fact, your unconscious mind is designed to make change in an instant. Ask yourself, ‘What’s the one thing I can learn about myself now in order to change this behaviour? What can I do instead, now that I know this new thing?’ Accept the first thing you see, hear, get or know. That’s your new pattern and new way of behaving now for peak performance.
