Performance Tip
Have you ever asked a small child what they want to be when they grow up? Their answers are varied and open: a fireman, a ballerina, a princess, an astronaut, a doctor, an actor, a footballer, a mum. I have never heard a small child say "Well I'd like to be an astronaut but I probably won't get the marks to get into that course at university, so I'm not sure what I will be when I grow up."
Small childen know how to dream. They are born dreaming. It is innate to us as humans to have dreams and reach for them. In fact more recent studies into the way the mind works indicate that your amazing mind is programmed to always want more. This means that you are programmed to always want more.
This is why it is so important to always set a new goal when you achieve one.
It's also why it is so vital to take time out to dream. Having a dream gives you energy, motivation and purpose, as well as the obvious 'side effect' of increasing your performance. Les Brown once said, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars." So even if you take just one step towards your dream, you will be further along than if you'd never reached at all.
Take one minute right now to dream. Imagine you have a magic hat in front of you, you know the ones magicians always seem to pull live rabbits out of! Imagine this hat in front of you and a magic wand in your hand. For one minute wave that magic wand and point it at the hat (or if you don't want people to see you, just imagine yourself doing this instead), and say one thing you would like to be, do or have in your life right now. Then wave the magic wand and say another thing. Keep going for one minute. See how many things you can name that you would like to be, do or have. Allow your incredible unconscious mind, which still remembers how to dream, to express your heart's desire. You might surprise yourself with what you actually want!
Now choose just one of those things you have named, the one that seems the most important to you right now, and ask yourself this potentially life changing question, "What's one step I can take right now to achieve this?"
And take that step.
Congratulations...you've just improved your performance! Your life performance.
Have a happy week!
